3/19 ---9:10am Sunless skies, 39 degrees, Lite wind, Water temp 44
When I got here the forecast was for patchy clouds and blue skies, warming to 58. By 10 o'clock the wind was howling and the white caps had started. It was a good thing that I put on my ores. Like so many times that I've been to Green I had the lake to myself. I headed toward the south end working the shore line with my intermittent line down about 150 yards from the launch. I pick up a few small Bluegill. and no trout. I then changed out and to my type 4 sinking line with one of my # 6 Disco Dolly Parton "DDP" booby fly and gave it a long cast out towards the middle of the lake. Let it sink a good minute before stripping in.
Half way back to the boat I started getting what felt like the bottom or short strikes. I striped in all the way no weeds. Casted back out again let it sink and started my retrieve back the same thing. Little bumps and on weeds. I changed out to a # 10 DDP and gave it a fling let it sink, retrieve, on the fourth strip Bingo !! Let the games begin. A small Bow of maybe 10". Another cast repeat 3rd or 4th strip bingo again. This went on for maybe 8 or 9 fish just about every cast until Bam! What ever hit it hard broke it off. I tyed on another and hooked more of the same last years plants.
Then just before I was ready to pull in for another cast on a faster strip. I get the tug the one I been waiting for. This is not one of last years plant. This guy has some shoulders and really wants to play tug a war. He took a run 20 ft. 30 ft. I had casted about 45 foot I was now down to having line taken off the reel and he exits the water 18-20inches long with a flip and splash 1,2,3 times. and the line goes slack I lift the rod and find hes still there. I slowly reel it in and is healthy and strong. In the measure net 7 and 12 Nice Bow, the hook falls out of his mouth with on tension on the line. he flips around in the net a few times while I try to dig out my phone buried deep in my Jacket pocket inside of the waders.
I caught a few more of the smaller Bows the wind started picking up from the south and a few drops started down. I let the wind blow me to the north end and set the anchor in 15 ft. of water changed to my Chronimed rig set it for casting into 8 ft of water 50 ft out and found that I was going to have a hard time casting that far with the wind beating my back I raised anchor and drifted down to 30 ft of target re- dropped anchor, tried a cast and was into my Chroni position for the rest of the day.
I left Big Green with a smile on my face. From the catch, picked up a few pieces of trash made home by 2. The water is getting warmer my feet weren't as cold today the fishing is still good at at least to me anyway I had fun and that all that really counts.
""TRASH"" IF YOU SEE IT JUST PICK IT UP IT WON'T HURT YOU.
1:30 PM white caps on the water, 45 but feels like 35
Time for some hot chili and cornbread.
An Okanogan and Ferry County Trout Hunter. From small streams, lakes, and rivers. I will chase trout of all sizes. Size doesn't matter if you use the right gear. From 7' 2# rods to 13'6" 7# Two Handers Spey.

Couldn't stand it anymore!!!
The clocks got changed last nite. I was up early, checked the river flows and just before sunrise I grabbed the Spey Rods, Waders and headed out. The river is still hi 1960cfs.
I went anyway seams like a long time that I hit the river,
I was in the water standing waist deep at sunrise, where a in normal year only my ankles would be in the water. (not liking it ) Air temp was a cool 26 and zero wind. The full moon was still hi in the sky, water gin clear, and much warmer that the air.
I swung nymphs and the standard flies until I was hit in the back with a 90% submerged tree limb that nearly knock me off my feet. and tangled me up. Yes I'll admit startled the shit rite out of me.
That was about 9am I bagged it in. Called it quits. Done for the day. The full moon was setting. over the cascades, and I was still in the shadows of the canyon another 20-30 minutes before the sun hit the water. Hopefully the damn tree didn't put any holes in my G3s. I'll know next time I go out.
.You never know how good or bad the fisin is unless you go try. Today just could of been one of the awesome days that clould of gone down in the memory books and the stories to be told for a long time, It wasn't but it wont stop me from going again soon.
There is the private lake.Think I'll have to get some second breakfast and go do some trout Fishin.

That crazy wacko Boobie Fly Disco Dolly Parton
I invited and met up with my good buddy and faithful fishin partner Gary. Today and we hit one of my early season and very private lakes. 10 o'clock sharp we met at the gate, After getting the pons ready I ask Gary to try out this weird and wacky fly that I tye, I call it the Disco Dolly Parton.
He looked at it with surprized eyes and gave me this R U KIDDING ME look." No just tye it on your sink line and let out about 45-60 ft of line let it sink deep and mix up the strip as you retrieve."
I was in the water first and before I got out maybe 45 ft from the launch I had srtip out maybe 30 ft. of line and let the line sail after a 20 count I started with a couple of slow strips while moving the rod from side to side. Then quicker strips then slow again. By thetime I had striped in 10-12 feet I got this jerk that almost pulled the rod out of my hand.
Gary saw what was going on, I think he was convinced that it just might work. Then I hooked another and another. By the time I made it to what we call the Bay I had hooked and landed a good days fishing for most people.
When I fish my type 4, 5 or 6 sink lines I only use no more than 4 or 5 foot of leader all fluorocarbon in either 6 or 8 pound test. I buy a spool of 120 yards about every 2-3 years and just keep it in one of my saddle bags. and I'll use it for just about everything that I fish below the surface.
Look close at this Tiger Trout at the corner of his mouth you can see the fly.
#6 2x long shank hook
Foam Caulking backer for barbell eyes.
Marabou tail black & hot pink
New age chenille (almost any brite color)this happens to be blue.
Dyed Polar Chenille wrapped together.
I have tyed this fly in many colors and the weirder the better.
Believe it or not I've even hooked a Steelie on one once.
Gary findley hooked up a few on the DDB he seamed to be having leader problems and losing flies. But that OK I can alway tye more. When the wind came up and we were tired of kicking in the 41 degree water. It was time to anchor up pull the numb feet out of the water and do some Chromide fishin.
You can't ask for better fishin weather for this time of year.Early March 56 degrees, sunny fluffy white hi clouds. and the wind really wasn't that bad.
I put to net my fair share of fish in the net along with Gray when we got out about 3 with numb feet that were hard to walk on smiles on our faces and stories to tell. Yes My friend we had a great day and thank you See you Tuesday as we head back to Rocky Ford Creek and then just hopefully back on the rivers for some late season Steelheading For some summer time BBQing.
