Jon called me a few weeks back to see if I was still guiding and. wanted to book a trip. He was a bit bummed when I told him that I wasn't guiding anymore as I have taken him and another group out in the past.
He started tell me about his latest Fathers and sons. The excitement in his voice was all it took for me to ask. " When do you want to do this?
In the next few weeks if possible.
I told him to give me a day or two and I'll make it happen.
They have spent the last few weeks learning about Fly fishing, each building a fly rod, how to set it up, with line, some knots, learning to tye some flies, and casting. Classroom time is all good. But what make it great is getting out and having the guides experience to put them into the fish,
So today we hooked up. We met at the North Forty Outfitters I gave Jon a short list of flies for them to pick up and also told them to grab some chapstick ???? .
The four sons were 10 &11 years old great age to start fly fishing. After getting the much needed supplies I had them follow me out of town to one of my favorite places to take kids to get fish. The north section Salmon Creek.
Jon and I got them all rigged up and with in minutes of being on the creek you could hear the hoots and hollers and the joy of young boys and men catching their first fish on a fly.
I spent the morning with them and everybody was hooking and landing fish. a few back cast weeds and lost flies.

Thank YOU Greg! After you left the boys refueled for lunch and we went strong the rest of the afternoon. We had an awesome time and caught several nice sized trout. The biggest highlight of course was seeing every boy catch a fish on the rod he built with his dad. Meeting up with you made the weekend exceptional for those young men.
ReplyDeleteThis is a late post, but sounds like all of you had a great time. I know when I went out with Greg (my big brother) I learned alot and actually caught a nice trout myself. I can't wait until I can visit Washington again and practice my casting. Love my brother. He's a great guide and knows his stuff!
