Buffalo Lake yes it's big and most differently it has some big fish.We arrived about 9 AM the wind was blowin up a gale. But by the time we were all in the water with the wind at out back it started to calm down and in no time we were all hooking into some fine Bows and not caring about the wind.
The other road one one that is not marked into Eagle Cove is deeply rutted but if you take the 2,7 mile road in slow you'll have no problem. Believe Me it's worth it. The parking is a little tight for more than six pick ups two hauling trailers.
By noon I had been snapped off twice with 4-X tippit and changed out to 3-X using my type 4 sinking line with a 10 count, anchored up in 18 feet of water, pitchin and strippin my Disco Dolly. On the third snap off I had to try something different and save my other two for later. I put on a black and wine leach flipped it out, no more than 4 or 5 cast and BAM damn near ripped the rod out of my hand. This 20 inch very fat came out of the water twice and almost jumped in to my lap as I was reaching for the net. Most fish showed them self's and were in the air at least once before being scooped up.
The smallest Bow for me today was a short but very plump 14 and the biggest had to be a hefty hearty 23-24 incher. this one had some pull power and took me into my backing, For a while I thought that I had lost it and was stuck in the weeds, until I felt a slight head shake and then it ran right at me. I had to strip in maybe 30 feet of line then it took off to the left. I got the line back on the reel and it took me a good 8-9 minutes to put the net under it.
Using a 5 weight is almost to light of a rod for most of these fish so next time and it will have to be after the BC trip in June, may have to wait till the water cools back off. Even tho its big water its now 58 and with more hot weather coming next few weeks.
I may go back this summer and take my 8 weight and tackle some of the small & large mouth Bass that are also here. A couple of bass guys in motor boats were doing good along the weeds. I could see some big splashes as they hauled them in.
I know I had fun and by the hoots and holler from the other guys they were having a blast toooo.
During lunch everybody had the one or two that snapped them off and the one that got away story and the big fish that the net got under. and I wish we had just one more day to do it all over again.
Both Dan, and Shawn both said that they are going to come back over in the fall to tangle with them again.
By 3 I had had my fill of fighting off the pesky Natts that swarmed us all day up the nose, down the throat,.in the eyes, behind the glasses and the buzzing in the ears.
